About HK8

Established in September 2014, HK8 is an alliance of the eight tertiary institutions in Hong Kong that are funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The eight UGC-funded institutions are:

HK8 aims to enhance the quality of higher education in Hong Kong through collaboration and sharing of best practices among member institutions, and by increasing their visibility in the international education community.

The Presidents of the eight institutions meet regularly at the Heads of Universities Committee (HUCOM) to deliberate on strategic issues related to the development of the local higher education sector. In addition, senior officers of different functional areas (including financial management, human resources management, information technology management, internationalization, joint admission system, joint quality review, library services, postgraduate administration, public relations/communications, Research Assessment Exercise, safety advice and sustainable campus) across the institutions work through various committees or working groups to address issues of common concerns. With this infrastructure and the active involvement of staff, a strong network has been built among the 8 UGC-funded institutions. HK8 serves as a platform to consolidate these and other synergistic efforts and to present to the global community the opportunities for academic pursuit available in Hong Kong’s publicly-funded higher education sector.
